The fuel tank is empty and the memory cards are full as I’ve covered about 1000 miles and taken as nearly many pictures in the last few days.

I’ve also recorded around 60GB of video with my new DJI Mavic Pro drone.

This post is just a short one to let you know where I’ve been and what I’ve been shooting, I’ll post about each individual place in greater detail over the coming days.

York Minster

Following on from my recent visit to Lichfield Cathedral, I stopped in at York Minster on my way to the Farne Islands. It’s breathtaking. I visited York on a school trip, but that was so long ago the Minster was classed as a new build back then. I paid extra to go up the tower, it was a bit of a squeeze for me and my gear at some points but I made it to the top (pics to follow). The stained glass windows were also very impressive. My only mistake was only giving myself 3 hours there. Will definitely be going back to discover the rest of York.

The Farne Islands

I was lucky to be able to land on Inner Farne as the North East wind was whipping up some big waves. Although this made for a choppy ride over to the islands it created some dramatic images of the cliffs and seabirds as the waves crashed against them.

Rannerdale bluebells

I’d heard of the Rannerdale bluebells, but had never been at the right time of year to see them. This isn’t your typical bluebell wood, in fact the wood is long gone, so the bluebells are visible from quite a distance. Visitors are asked to keep to the paths, but no one told the sheep. I also took some nice drone footage which I’ll post soon.

Highland Cattle at Buttermere

I love highland cattle and couldn’t resist taking some shots of this small herd grazing on the banks of Buttermere.

DJI Mavic Pro – The Lake District

I’ve been waiting a long time for my drone to arrive. After a short practice flight near home I then flew it around numerous places in the north lakes. If you’re going to practice aerial photography and filming then there’s no better place! I’m totally hooked. I shot a lot of footage, not all usable (I kept forgetting to stop recording – lots of film of my feet when landing!), but captured some stunning sequences which I’ve put together in to a short film – click here to view.
